Who Then Is Greatest?
Matthew 18:1–9 · The Child in the Midst
Join us in Matthew 18:1–9, where the disciples come to Jesus with a question they were too ashamed to ask honestly — “who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” — and He answers by standing a child in the midst of them. With the Church Fathers as our guides, we get past the greeting-card version of “become like little children” and find one unbroken argument about greatness, from the child to the millstone to the severed limb. The kingdom has no leaderboard for the proud — the question is not who ranks highest, but who enters at all.
